PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — South Dakota legislators rejected an effort to ban cell phones in schools, now the state gets an “F” from the Phone Free Schools Report Card. A report card evaluator says if the bill had passed, it would have actually lowered the state’s score. The only states that got an “A” require students to store phones in inaccessible locations throughout the school day. The group says allowing phones for emergencies can actually make students less safe.
