BOX ELDER, SD (KELO.com) — Governor Larry Rhoden is putting action to his words that national security will be South Dakota’s next big industry. He announced a $5-million grant from the Governor’s Future Fund to establish and operate the South Dakota Defense Institute for five years. He also announced another $1-million to buy a building in Rapid City’s Innovation District to house the institute. It’s envisioned as a collaborative space to bring students, researchers and defense companies together.
