SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Celebrating the nation’s 250th birthday wouldn’t be complete without a parade. With that in mind, organizers are ramping up their efforts to restore the July 4th parade in Sioux Falls for the first time in four years. Army Veteran Aaron Levisay has been working on the project for months, and says the effort extends into the future, “We’re just trying to make sure that we have the parade for America’s 250th birthday because we think that’s really important. But we also want to make sure that it happens every year.”
Medal of Honor recipient Michael Fitzmaurice is the Grand Marshal of this year’s parade. The local Daughters of the American Revolution will hand out 19-thousand flags, and fundraising efforts are underway to make the parade a permanent part of Independence Day observances in years to come.
