UNDATED (KELO.com) — Do hyper scale data centers and higher electric rates go hand-in-hand? Data Center opponents often site that as a major concern, but studies question if there’s a relationship between the two. Creighton University Economist Dr. Ernie Goss says a study by the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows just the opposite is true in some cases, “The state that had the greatest increase of data centers per capita between 2019 and 2024 was North Dakota, with an increase of 410%. Their electricity prices actually went down 12% during that period of time.” Nationwide, the study shows the number of data centers more than doubled over the five year period, while electric rates increased by six percent.
