Governor encouraging counties to explore half-penny sales tax for property tax relief

PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — Governor Larry Rhoden is encouraging county officials to explore the possibilities of a sales tax hike to provide property tax relief.  It comes in the form of a letter to county officials across the state.  The plan, promoted by the Governor during the legislative session, allows counties to levy a half-penny sales tax to raise funds to provide property tax relief for homeowners.
