McKenna Wendel
SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — An autopsy was performed Monday, but so far, officials aren’t naming any suspects in last week’s disappearance and death of a 14-year old Sioux Falls girl. Police Chief Jon Thum says the search was intense as authorities hoped to find McKenna Wendel alive. “I can tell you, very few cases throughout the course of my career had the razor focus and dedication of our entire teams and partnership across the region. We were all there for one central purpose: to find answers, find truth, and make sure that we brought her home, and justice continues in that pursuit.”
McKenna’s remains were found in a rural area east of Brookings Thursday. Police Captain Terry Matea reassured the public that no one else is in danger. “We think that all the people that were involved or know her whereabouts we have in custody on unrelated charges or we know who they are.”
An Uncle has been mentioned in social media as a suspect because of past crimes, but officials say they can’t name any suspects until the cause of death is determined by the autopsy.
