PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — The South Dakota legislature is putting the finishing touches on what supporters call the Data Center Bill of Rights for Citizens. House Speaker Jon Hansen says it’s a product of seeing what has happened to electric rates in other states that have built data centers. It’s designed to prevent state residents from being forced to subsidize data centers through higher electric rates that can be caused by those centers. The measure passed on a 60-7 vote, but the House added an amendment, so it goes back to the Senate, where it was approved unanimously earlier in the session.
