PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — An effort to guard against self-dealing in state government contracts passed a legislative committee Wednesday morning, but not without some changes. Amendments were added in the state Senate, before it passed unanimously. On the House side, Speaker Jon Hansen objected, and successfully removed the Senate amendments from the bill. He said the original bill had some teeth to make sure there was protection against state officials and employees from working for companies that benefit from contracts they helped approve. Then, he says, the Senate amendments took the teeth out. With the original provisions restored, the bill passed the committee and was moved to the full House with a ‘do pass’ recommendation.
