Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.)
SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Congressman Dusty Johnson is making the rounds this week, promoting one of the center pieces for his campaign for Governor to provide property tax relief. His is a two-part plan, tied to a sales tax increase that will come next year.
Legislators approved a three tenths of a percent sales tax holiday two years ago – the holiday ends in 2027. Johnson wants to use the extra revenue from that sales tax increase, estimated at $105-million, to provide $400 rebates to property tax payers.
The second part of his plan would also use some of the extra sales tax revenues to provide a two-year zero property tax for first time homebuyers and former South Dakotans who want to come back home.
