Pierre, SD (KELO.com) — School choice is coming to South Dakota, thanks to federal tax credits included in the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill. Governor Rhoden has announced the decision to opt in to the Partners in Education Scholarship program. That will mean more competition for the state’s public schools…which Education Secretary Joe Graves says is a good thing. Individuals can get up to 17-hundred dollars in federal tax credits by donating to public or private schools. State funds aren’t required, but public schools could lose state aid if more students attend private schools as a result of the program.
