Sioux Falls, SD — A call to change South Dakota’s hate crime law following an arrest for disturbing the peace and damaging property. Rusty Caldwell was arrested Friday night for allegedly yelling offensive statements related to sexual orientation at his McKennan Park neighbors, while damaging trees in the process. One of the victims says state law doesn’t protect against sexual orientation harassment. Caldwell disputes the incident had anything to do with sexuality and was only focused on a long-standing feud with neighbors about a Trump flag on his property.
