SIOUX FALLS, SD, (KELO.com) — Mayor Paul TenHaken voiced concerns regarding the newly passed law to make recreational and medical marijuana legal in South Dakota.
He said that there are problems ahead with the outcome of the recent vote.
“I realize that the voice of the people have spoken, but, in some ways, it may seem ok now, ten years from now, this has the potential to be a real challenging and pivotal law that we’ve changed here in our constitution,” TenHaken said.
TenHaken said there are now a lot of things to consider concerning how to regulate use in the state.
He said, “I am going to be digging in and see what challenges it does present, and also what opportunities we have in the city of Sioux Falls…to regulate this on our own in some way. For instance, in Colorado, there’re some municipalities that choose not to enforce or not to allow the marijuana dispensaries to exist. They have home rule, they can do that on a local level. Do I want to do that? I’m not sure yet.”
TenHaken appeared this morning on The Greg Belfrage Show.
