New election integrity law will likely generate lawsuits

PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — A conflict between a new election integrity law and data privacy is generating heat in the South Dakota Secretary of State’s office, and will likely generate lawsuits.  The Dakota Scout reports the office published a database identifying people who registered to vote while signing up for government assistance – a violation of state and federal law.  During the month of July, seven-thousand registered voters were identified with state-run welfare programs.  The ACLU is threatening to pursue legal action, and says the Secretary of State’s office should take the information down immediately.
