PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — South Dakota teacher pay is improving, but not as quickly as state officials want. They’re earning an average of 56-thousand dollars this year – that is below the nearly 60-thousand-dollar target set two years ago. South Dakota now ranks 46th in teacher pay which is an improvement from last year’s ranking of 49th. The budget will be tight again next year, meaning raises may stay close to the current cap of three percent or the rate of inflation.
