SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Minnehaha County was still counting ballots from Tuesday’s election for most of the day on Wednesday.
The troops started counting after the polls closed, but County Auditor, Bob Litz sent folks home to get some sleep to be fresh for more counting in the morning.
Litz has said that he usually likes to have all the counting done election night, but there were just so many absentee ballots this election, the counting will take longer.
All the other counties in South Dakota have already turned in their final election results to the Secretary of State’s Office in Pierre.
Since Minnehaha is South Dakota’s most populous county, its’ numbers are very important for the final total.
This is the last election as the county auditor for Litz, who’s been on the job since 2010.
(We were last updated on the status of the count at 4 p.m.)
