SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — The city of Sioux Falls is coming to grips with lower revenues from its two main sources. Mayor Paul TenHaken unveiled his budget proposal Thursday afternoon, noting that sales tax revenues are down, and a new property tax limitation law will hit future revenues. That means up to ten million dollars in budget cuts in the next three years. He says his team intentionally avoided cuts to employee numbers, salaries and benefits. The Mayor said that decision was made, recognizing the importance of the city’s workforce to providing services to citizens, and realizing that because of budget cuts, those employees are being asked to do more with less. The proposal totals over 775-million dollars and includes money for more public safety personnel, a new fire station and road projects.
