SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation is reviewing evidence in an officer-involved shooting in Sioux Falls Monday afternoon. Sioux Falls Police were trying to arrest 24-year-old Deondre Blackhawk on burglary, drug and aggravated assault charges. Information Officer Aaron Benson says Blackhawk allegedly shot a 19-year-old female in the head on Sunday. She was critically injured and remains hospitalized.
Attorney General Marty Jackley says Blackhawk fled on foot when officers attempted to arrest him, firing a handgun at three officers during the pursuit. The officers returned fire, striking Blackhawk several times. He’s being treated at a local hospital.
