SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Minnehaha County will spend over $500,000 for a floodwall and pump system at the county jail.
County Commission Chair Jean Bender says approving such change orders isn’t fun, but this is important.
“This is something that we have vetted out extensively and feel that it is in the best interests in protecting the investment we’ve got.”
County officials say that even with this extra cost, the jail expansion project is still coming in under budget.
They say they want to be pro-active in handling flood events.
The floodwall will be 30 inches high with an automatic flood gate that will protect the sidewalk and the four entrances into the jail.
