PARMALEE, SD (KELO.com) — Rosebud Tribal Police and family members are seeking the public’s help in locating a missing young woman. 22-year old Savannah Standing Bear of Parmalee sent a text to her mother in the early morning hours of March 25, saying she was leaving the family’s home for a time with two friends, and hasn’t been seen since. Family members say it is out of character for her to go more than a day without contacting her mother. The friends have since returned to the community.
Law enforcement tracked Standing Bear’s mobile phone to an area near Parmalee, but haven’t been able to find her. An intense ground search has been underway since Friday, April 4th involving law enforcement, fire and rescue crews and volunteers from the community and from as far away as New Mexico. The Department of Public Safety is sending an airplane to help with the search. Authorities are asking anyone that has information that may be helpful in locating Standing Bear to call the Rosebud Sioux Tribal Police at (605) 856-2282.
