OMAHA, NE (KELO.com) — Our regional economy is running in the red for the 18th time in the last 19 months. That, according to Creighton University’s monthly Rural Main Street Index. The Index includes a survey of bankers in a ten state Midwest region that includes South Dakota. Creighton economist, Dr. Ernie Goss, says the bankers’ expectations aren’t very bright. Nearly two thirds of the bankers surveyed say they expect farm income to decline for a third straight year. One bright spot – Main Street businesses in the region appear to be doing well, despite difficulties in farming.
