SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — The city will build a controversial fence in a troubled Sioux Falls neighborhood – but not without protest. City Councilors voted unanimously Tuesday night to lease the vacant lot just north of the Bishop Dudley House. Getting to that decision was stormy, requiring Mayor Paul TenHaken to have a member of the audience removed from the council chambers for interrupting testimony and acting unruly. Council members agreed that the fence won’t solve all the problems. They hope it will reduce the amount of crime and improve safety in the neighborhood as they work on addressing the homelessness, addiction and mental health issues that lead to many of those problems.
