PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — Some call it the “Dusty bill”. A legislative committee voted Monday morning to limit the amount of campaign funds that can be transferred from a federal campaign to a state campaign. Congressman Dusty Johnson is expected to run for governor next year, and could transfer a large amount of federal campaign funds to a campaign for governor. Sponsor, Representative Spencer Gosch says it’s all about creating a level playing field. The bill would limit transfers from federal campaigns to state campaigns to $100-thousand – the same limit state residents face. Gosch denies the bill was crafted with Congressman Johnson in mind. He says there’s no emergency clause on the bill, so Congressman Johnson would have time to transfer funds to a state fund if he wanted to.
