SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — On Friday night at 11:09 p.m., Sioux Falls Police were called to an apartment building in the 700 block of North Elmwood Avenue for a person that was refusing to leave. Preliminary investigations showed that two officers arrived on the call. According to law enforcement officials, after the officers entered the building the subject of the call began to open fire. That’s when one of the officers returned fire killing the shooter.
It is reported that officers began to render aid after the incident before paramedics could arrive. The shooter was determined to be deceased at the scene. One officer did suffer minor injuries but did not require medical attention. The two officers have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with police policy.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released. The shooting is under investigation.
