SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls is flexing its muscles with a new facility for fitness and recreation with the opening of the Westside Recreation Center. Yesterday, the city officially took over operations of its first-ever public fitness center — the Sanford Wellness Center at Tea-Ellis Road. Back in April, the city announced plans to buy the facility for nine million dollars from Sanford. The center features an indoor aquatic area, a gymnasium, racket ball courts and more all under one roof. Sioux Falls Recreation Manager Jackie Nelson says over 12-hundred pass holders have signed up so far for Westside Recreation. Low-income residents enrolled in programs like SNAP and Medicaid can pay half the price on all rates with no enrollment or activation fees.
