SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The return to power of President-elect Donald Trump may deliver a reprieve for some South Dakotans charged in the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots.
Reporting by South Dakota Searchlight reveals that four South Dakotans have pending charges, and one has been sentenced for their roles in the insurrection.
Four people in the crowd died that day and more than 100 police officers were injured.
One officer died the day after the riot, and four others committed suicide within seven months.
Trump has repeatedly called January 6 rioters “political prisoners” and otherwise downplayed the riot
