SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — It’s being viewed as a critical component in workforce development.
Finding affordable childcare for parents who want to enter the workforce is no easy task.
The need is there, but parents can’t afford to pay childcare operators what they need to stay in business.
Sioux Falls City Councilor Rich Merkouris believes a childcare assistance program may be needed.
A consultant hired by the city is recommending a one year, 300-thousand dollar pilot program.
It’s what’s called a “Tri-Share” model, with costs being covered by the city, businesses and the parents with children in the program.
