SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Falls Park will become a Winter Wonderland tonight as residents soak in a new master plan for The Falls – as it’s called in that plan. Dozens of miles of light strings will illuminate the park, as the switch is flipped at 5pm to signal the arrival of the holidays. Thursday night parks department officials unveiled the new master plan at a public open house. Among those in the crowd was former Mayor Rick Knobe, who was part of the early efforts to improve Falls Park in the mid-1970’s.
At that time, Falls Park included a junk yard and was surrounded by heavy industrial activities.
The new master plan for the park, now called The Falls, casts a vision for developments over the next 30 years. Planners say all of the components they’ve envisioned will cost in the neighborhood of 100-million dollars.
