PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — You can expect to see the South Dakota Legislature work to restrict Internet access for minors this coming year. After working on the issue throughout the summer, a legislative committee is recommending a proposal modeled after a new Texas law that’s before the U-S Supreme Court. Co-chair Representative Mike Weisgram says the committee is supporting the Texas law over a model developed with the help of META to make app creators responsible for age verification for social media and pornographic websites.
The committee also decided against prohibiting the use of cell phones by students in public schools, leaving that to the discretion of local school boards and administrators.
