SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — A new poll shows the proposed constitutional amendment on abortion in South Dakota is now too close to call. The poll is co-sponsored by South Dakota NewsWatch and the Chiesman Center for Democracy at USD. The poll shows that about half of the state’s registered voters support Amendment G, but 47-percent oppose it. A survey in May showed a 53 to 35-percent margin.
Likewise, Initiated Measure 28 to repeal the state sales tax on consumable items is much tighter. It is now favored by a 49 to 45 percent margin. In May, 56-percent of those polled supported the repeal. Initiated Measure 29, which would legalize recreational use of marijuana has seen a slight increase in support, but if the election were held today, the poll indicates it would be defeated by a 51 to 44 percent margin.
