SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — The first year of city management of Metro Communications saw a couple of major challenges. Metro is the emergency communications and dispatch center for city police and fire crews…as well as for the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Department. There were two high-profile outages of 911 services during Metro’s first year. Assistant Fire Chief Mike Gramlick, Metro’s interim director, says the agency handled those outages well and is ready to deal with similar problems going forward.
Gramlick says the biggest challenge has been staff retention and hiring.
Gramlick presented Metro’s proposed budget to City Councilors and County Commissioners at a joint meeting last night.
