PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — The shooting of an armed hostage taker in Sioux Falls has been ruled as justified.
Attorney General Marty Jackley announced that a South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation review indicates that a Sioux Falls Police Officer and a Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Deputy were justified in the shooting involving a Sioux Falls gas station clerk hostage incident that occurred on July 3, 2024.
Daniel Todd Augustine, 26, of Sioux Falls fired shots at law enforcement while holding a clerk hostage at the Get N Go at 600 S. Minnesota Avenue.
A Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Deputy fired one round from a sniper rifle, killing Augustine after he behaved erratically and refused to comply with authorities.
The clerk was not injured.
