SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A nearly $2 million federal grant will be used to complete the main road at Foundation Park, making it easier to land prospective tenants.
Everybody wants to know if one of those prospects is Amazon, but the Sioux Falls Development Foundation’s Bob Mundt still refuses to be drawn.
“I can’t give you any specifics on the projects we’re working with, but I can say that this certainly allows us the access to the property we need to court some of those companies.”
Various media reports say that Amazon plans to build a big distribution center at Foundation Park, the industrial park on the northside of Sioux Falls.
The grant is part of the CARES ACT which distributes money based on economic needs caused by COVID-19.
“We believe that they looked at it as a mechanism for us to be able to create additional jobs here in the Sioux Falls region to help address some of the unemployment and job losses we’ve seen here as a result of COVID.”
Big tenants have been few and far between since the 800-acre industrial park was announced years ago. At the time, then-Mayor Mike Huether predicted it would create a “juggernaut” of jobs for Sioux Falls.
