SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Minnehaha County Commission has given final approval to a new $113.2 million county budget.
“It’s always good to go to the taxpayers and tell them that their property tax levies are actually going to be less,” says Commission Chair Jean Bender.
County officials say that the property tax levies have been decreased by 6 percent to the lowest levy rate since 2013.
Commissioner Dean Karsky says the budget still gets things done despite the lower levy rate.
Commissioners thank the staff for all the hours, days, and months that went into putting together the new 2021 spending document.
Public safety expenses continue to increase in Minnehaha County so the new budget includes additional employees in the public defender’s office.
