SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
It is estimated that 1 in 10 people over the age of 60 have fallen victim to elder fraud scams each year, at a cost of over $28 billion dollars.
Alison Ramsdell, U.S. Attorney for the District of South Dakota, explains the most common scams.
Ramsdell reminds people that government agencies will never contact you by phone or email, only through the postal service.
