SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Sioux Falls City Council approves the budget and changes its tune concerning the municipal band.
Council adopted a nearly $600 million budget last night, including an amendment to add back in funding for the Sioux Falls Municipal Band.
The budget, which totals $593.6 million passed in a 7-1 vote, with Councilor Pat Starr voting against.
Councilor Curt Soehl made an amendment to the budget resolution, asking to “appoint a task force to study and recommend a long-term strategy that fosters a financially sustainable Sioux Falls Municipal Band.”
The amendment will fund the band this year with $112,000 from the Parks and Recreation operating budget.
That amendment, as well as the resolution creating the task force, both passed 8-0.
