PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — Governor Kristi Noem has signed an executive order prohibiting state legislators from getting involved in any contract with the state, or any county during their time in office. The action follows problems created when a lawmaker illegally accepted over $600-thousand dollars in COVID relief funds. Senator Jessica Castleberry received the money for her childcare center in Rapid City. She says she did so after consulting legal counsel, but the South Dakota Supreme Court had already ruled that such payments were illegal for state legislators. Castleberry is cooperating in paying back the funds.
