PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — South Dakota lawmakers are beginning to get a picture of the needs in the Nursing Home Industry. Tim Rave, President of the state Association of Health Care Organizations, testified before the legislature’s Study Committee on Sustainable Models for Long Term Care this week. Rave says one of the first areas of need is Long Term Care facilities. He says margins are so tight in the industry, companies don’t have money to upgrade their facilities.
In addition to aging facilities, Rave says staffing is another area of challenge for legislators to consider.
Rave says streamlined training and certification would help solve the staffing problem. The committee hopes to have a plan to support the industry for the full legislature to consider by the end of the summer.
