BRIDGEWATER, SD (KELO.com) — The first week of planting is down, and all is going well. Last week, we introduced you to Jason Hofer, a 4th generation farmer near Bridgewater. The wheels of the planter were just beginning to roll then, but he’s covered a lot of ground since then.
Planting season is always a critical time for farm equipment to hold up – especially with a late spring like we have had this year. Hofer says “So far so good” on his planting equipment.
Like all farmers, the technology he carries with him in the field is more important now than ever.
For now, Hofer is happy for the dry weather. It’s permitting his crews to continue to work on spring planting. If all goes well, Hofer should have his corn and beans planted in less than a week. But, he’ll soon be praying and hoping for rain – especially in some areas of his operation that are still dry after last year’s lack of moisture.
