ST. CROIX COUNTY, WI (KELO.com) — The Wisconsin sheriff’s deputy killed in the line duty over the weekend had ties to South Dakota. 29-year-old Kaitie Leising was responding to a report of drunk driving crash in St. Croix County. While she was investigating, gunfire was exchanged and she was killed. The suspect was later found in a wooded area dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Leising had been with the department since 2022. Prior to that, she had served two years with the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.
