Nothern Lights make an appearance throughout the KELO Listening Area

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — It was quite a show last night as the northern lights made an appearance for many across the area.

Three days ago, our Sun emitted a large solar flare that sent charged particles racing towards Earth.

They reached our planet yesterday, creating a dazzling sight as they interacted with its magnetic field.

Lights were visible as far south as Sioux Falls, with areas to our north catching even brighter green and purple streaks dancing through the night sky.

The National Weather Service says that this particular “solar storm” was categorized as Severe, with the possibility of another appearance again tonight.
