The incident occurred on Interstate 90 near the Marion Road exit shortly after 12 noon.
While the Trooper was inside his vehicle providing traffic control for a crash ahead, an eastbound semi came upon the scene and struck the cruiser.
The driver of the semi said low visibility and poor road conditions caused him to not see the Trooper.
He was cited for overdriving and the Trooper was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, both law enforcement agencies and the National Weather Service say that even today there are still spots of low visibility and blowing snow on roadways across the area.
The risk will be present throughout the day today, and possibly into tomorrow, as gusty winds are expected to stick around until Sunday.
Portions of Interstate 90 were closed in Minnesota last night, but have since been reopened.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says that both rural highways and I-90 in the state are still slick, so use caution if traveling in the area today.
Most state highways and I-90 in southcentral and the southwest corner of MN have reopened to traffic. A few highways (red on the map) remain closed until stranded vehicles are removed and we can safely reopen the roads. Monitor https://t.co/STAjiap4Tf for updates. pic.twitter.com/LKFsanRoMa
