SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A gift from the heart has been saving lives.
A $60 million Helmsley Charitable Trust program that provides first responders across eight states with more than 25,000 automated external defibrillators has documented more than 100 lives saved.
109 saves have been recorded since the first AED was delivered in late 2019, including 24 in South Dakota.
Studies show a dramatically higher survival rate for cardiac patients shocked by law enforcement.
