SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — While another unprecedented weather event continues to make its way across the northern plains, its impact continues to cause hazardous and even life threatening travel conditions.
As of 1 p.m., Interstate 90 remains closed from Wall to the Minnesota state line.
Interstate 90 in Minnesota was reopened briefly this morning from the South Dakota state line to Albert Lea, but the Minnesota Department of Transportation says at 2 p.m. today, they will be once again closing I-90 due to ongoing weather conditions.
The South Dakota Department of Transportation says that Interstate 29 was reopened from Watertown to the North Dakota border at noon.
While I-29 has been reopened to traffic, a No Travel Advisory remains in effect for the interstate north of Sioux Falls.
The SDDOT says due to the extremely cold temperatures and windy conditions, applying chemical and salt are not effective treatment options.
Travelers should expect to encounter ice-covered roads and snow covered shoulders.
