SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Authorities provided an update Monday morning to Saturday’s fatal vehicle versus snowmobile crash west of Hartford.
The crash occurred shortly after the victim overturned his 2015 Articat Snowmobile in the road while riding with other snowmobilers in the area of SD Hwy 38 and 462nd Ave.
While the victim, Jarvis Brende, 42, Baltic, was attempting to flip his snowmobile back over, he was struck by a 2001 GMC Jimmy SUV.
Life saving measures were performed by first responders for Brende, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the investigation, the driver of the SUV told authorities that he saw the snomobilers in the area, but was unable to slow down in time to avoid striking Brende due to poor road conditions along Highway 38.
While the investigation remains ongoing, charges are not likely to be filed against the driver at this time.
Listen as Patrol Captain Adam Zishka with the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office details the situation.
