SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) – The Salvation Army’s annual $20 Challenge is Saturday, December 10th.
Sioux Falls Salvation Army Board Member John Mogen every $20 bill dropped into the kettles Saturday will be matched by local anonymous donors. Red kettle donations are about $10,000 behind last year at this time.
Mogen says people may be holding on to their money a little tighter this year due to inflation. As a result, he says, there’s a “much greater need” in the community.
“Last year Salvation Army armed about 900 families with help for their heat, rent, food, clothing. And this year, there are an extra 300 families, so over 1200 families that are in need,” Mogen says.
The Sioux Falls community has come together to “shower” the Salvation Army with $20 bills for the past 13 years.
