SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken says some big announcements are coming soon.
He wouldn’t be too specific.
“Exciting stuff. Everything from health-related, community resources, social justice issues were working on, and we have a lot of announcements coming up.”
On Monday, the Mayor holds his first briefing in a long time on COVID-19 impact in the city. Tenhaken says he knows many people are losing patience and that many people are just plain angry. He gets that but says solutions are more important and if you have any to email him at mayor@siouxfalls.org.
In his latest Facebook ‘Live’ update on Thursday, the mayor ranged over topics from the new 9-1-1 Dispatch Center to how he feels about the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
TenHaken says a new dispatch center is sorely needed.
“If you ever want to see what sardines look like, you go to our current dispatch center and see those consoles and people on top of each other..” The new center will be part of the new police and fire training facility included in the mayor’s 20121 budget proposal. A big bond issue would pay for the project.
TenHaken is glad the Sturgis Rally wasn’t canceled. He says they’re doing it safely and jokingly imagines what would have happened if the rally had been canceled.
“The biker culture – if you say Sturgis is canceled, you’re gonna have twice the size of the Sturgis you would have had,” yes, the mayor says, the bikers will be comining in and out of Sioux Falls. But as long as COVID-19 precautions are used, everything should be fine.
TenHaken also talked about the rally to a national audience on ABC’s Good Morning America show on Thursday.
