SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls’ Great Plains Zoo mourns the death of endangered American Red Wolves, Ayasha and Nayati.
Ayasha was born there in 2008, observed via remote camera by zookeeper Angie Blommer, who named her in Cheyenne language: ‘little one’.
Nayati was born at Beardsley Zoo, Connecticut in 2007. He arrived at Great Plains Zoo in 2014.
The pair strengthened their species’ survival through successful breeding. Fewer than 30 survive in the wild.
Blommer expresses she’ll miss them deeply.
