SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — It’s a new school year in Sioux Falls and that means new programs and new posters on the wall.
The public schools open Thursday.
The District’s Carly Uthe say they’re excited about a Junior Kindergarten pilot at Susan B. Anthony and Harvey Dunn. It’s for kids age five, just turning five, and may not be quite ready for big kindergarten, so this program gets them comfortable with what’s coming.
There will also be a Dual Immersion program at Rosa Parks and Hayward Elementary Schools, where students will be taught half in English and half in Spanish.
A new state law requires that the “In God We Trust” motto be prominently displayed in all South Dakota schools. The Sioux Falls poster also includes information on the country, the state, the city, and the school district.
“So we really wanted to create a civic lesson for our students so they’re learning, they’re really getting the full picture.”
