SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — There’s going to be a lot more people on the streets and sidewalks tomorrow.
It’s the first day of school for Sioux Falls Public Schools, Harrisburg, Garretson, Dell Rapids, and West Central.
Sioux Falls public school officials say that means there will be over 24,000 students and over 3,500 staff returning to schools for the first time in three months.
They’ll be coming in cars, trucks, SUVs, vans, buses, and bicycles.
Expect traffic snarls on South Cliff Avenue between Lincoln High School and 57th Street about 8 a.m.
And officials say make sure to watch out for kids on foot and on bikes on the sidewalks and crosswalks.
In Harrisburg, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says they’re not going to give warning tickets to speeders in school zones. They’re going to issue tickets.
In Sioux Falls, police say fines for speeding in school zones have gone up dramatically.
Sioux Falls superintendent Brian Maher says don’t look at a school bus and think it’s just a big hunk of metal. Think of it as representing a child.
