DUBLIN, N.H. (KELO.com) — The new Old Farmer’s Almanac is out and it says our area will see a parade of snowstorms this coming winter.
They say, “Get ready for winter’s wallop!”
Then for next summer, they say eastern South Dakota will see “sizzle and drizzle” and western South Dakota will be “scorching.”
The Old Farmer’s Almanac places Sioux Falls in it’s Heartland region. Here’s what they say about the approaching winter season:
- “Winter temperatures will be below normal on average, with above-normal snowfall and slightly above-normal precipitation. The coldest periods will be in early to mid-January, earl and mid-February, and early March. The snowiest periods will be in early to mid-December, early to mid-January, and mid-February.”
How does the Almanac predict the weather in an age of satellites and technology?
“We derive our weather forecasts from a secret formula that was devised by the founder of this almanac, Robert B. Thomas, in 1792,” according to the publication. “Thomas believed that weather on Earth was influenced by sunspots, which are magnetic storms on the surface of the Sun.”
